BMW has officially announced the first-ever all-wheel-drive version of the M2, closing one of the last gaps between the smallest M car and the larger M3 and M4. The 2027 BMW M2 xDrive arrives at U.S. dealers in late summer with a starting price of $73,600, before destination.
Mechanically, the xDrive car keeps everything familiar. Power comes from the S58 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six, tuned to 473 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque — identical to the rear-wheel-drive M2. What changes is how that power reaches the road. With all four wheels driven through an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch in the transfer case, BMW says the M2 xDrive sprints to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, three-tenths quicker than the rear-drive model.
For drivers who buy an M2 specifically for its tail-happy character, BMW kept the escape valve: the M Setup menu now includes a dedicated rear-wheel-drive mode that fully disengages the front axle and deactivates DSC. One press of the button and the M2 xDrive becomes the same rear-wheel monster the badge has stood for since 2016.
The car shares its hardware platform with the facelifted M2, so the manual transmission is gone — only the eight-speed Steptronic automatic is offered. Production begins August 2026 at BMW’s San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico, with eight exterior colors including the new BMW Individual Borusan Turkish Blue.
