American restomod outfit Classic Recreations nearly disappeared late last year, but a buyout from Velocity Restorations and a fresh Shelby licensing deal pulled it back from bankruptcy. The first major statement of the new era is this all-carbon-fiber 1967–68 Shelby GT500 CR.
The entire bodywork is finished in exposed carbon fiber — a tricky look that often goes wrong, but here the weave pattern looks millimetre-perfect across every panel. The car is restrained in colour, with the carbon body offset by black racing stripes on the hood, roof, and rear, and rolling on bespoke wheels with carbon-fiber barrels and black Wilwood brake calipers.
Inside, the cabin has been completely reworked: modern sound deadening, new Focal speakers, fresh infotainment, and reupholstered seats in black leather with red contrast stitching. It still reads classic Mustang, just refined.
Power comes from Ford’s modern 5.0-liter Coyote V8 in three flavours: 500 hp naturally aspirated, 700 hp supercharged, or 900 hp top-spec. Pricing starts at $549,900 for the base GT500 CR and runs past $724,900 for the 900-hp build. For a Shelby restomod with full Shelby licensing, that price tag puts Classic Recreations directly in the conversation with the very top of the American restomod tier.
