Land Rover Classic's Works Bespoke division has revealed its most ambitious commission to date: a matching set of four remastered Classic Defender V8s built for a single anonymous buyer. The collection spans all four available bodystyles — the 90 Soft Top, 90 Hard Top, 110 Station Wagon, and 110 Double Cab Pick-Up — unified by a signature color-shifting spectral paint that took close to 400 hours per vehicle to apply correctly.
The bodywork wears a unique Spectral Green finish that shifts between green, purple, and gold depending on angle and light — a treatment carried across the diamond-cut 18-inch Sawtooth alloys, the grille, and the headlight housings. Each vehicle is built on a 2012–2016 donor chassis with its diesel engine replaced by a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 making 400 hp and 515 Nm, fed through a ZF 8-speed automatic. The Works Bespoke chassis upgrade adds Eibach springs, Bilstein dampers, beefed anti-roll bars, revised steering, and larger brakes. Individual commissions typically exceed £200,000 ($260,000), putting the four-vehicle total well past £800,000 ($1,050,000).
What makes this commission remarkable isn't just the price — it's the ambition. The color-shifting paint and matched-set format are a deliberate statement about what bespoke European restomods can achieve when budget is genuinely unlimited. Land Rover Classic is proving that the original Defender, now 30+ years old, remains a uniquely compelling platform for ultra-personalized builds.
