Expedition Motor Company (EMC) has unveiled its latest classic Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen restomod, a 250GD finished in a striking Magma Beam Orange with black accents throughout. EMC specializes in reviving old-school G-Class models, and while this build is billed as "period-correct," the mechanical work underneath tells a different story.
The original 2.5-liter OM605a turbodiesel five-cylinder stays in place, but EMC added new dual overhead camshafts and a turbocharger to push output from a stock 150 hp to roughly 225 hp, nearly double the factory figure. Exterior updates include a new steel front bumper and bulbar, black fender flares, a black roll cage, and black 17-inch Stahl wheels, while the cabin gets dual-tone Doppio and Nasturtium leather with stained oak trim.
EMC has built a reputation on this kind of comprehensive G-Wagen overhaul, offering everything from period-correct turbodiesel builds to full modern V8 conversions, all centered on the boxy W460/W461-generation G-Class that predates today's G 63 AMG.
For HPP's Mercedes-Benz customers, it's another data point on how much performance and character can be extracted from a classic platform without touching the factory drivetrain layout, a philosophy that lines up closely with the kind of upgrade packages HPP builds for current G-Class and AMG owners.
